Jackson County Public Health is investigating an unusually high number of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) cases. Since August 8, 2021, 16 cases have been reported to Jackson County, and 12 (75%) of these cases have been hospitalized.

Jackson County Public Health said they’ve been investigating several cases since August 8, 2021. Of the 16 people who were infected, 12 have been hospitalized.

Brett Taylor of KDRV NewsWatch 12 of Medford Oregon reports that that Jackson County is dealing with an E. coli outbreak.

Fifteen people across Jackson County have been infected with E.coli, including ten people who have been hospitalized.

The cases identified so far have exposure

As of July 27, 2021, 16 people infected with the outbreak strain of E. coli O121 have been reported from 12 states (Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Utah, Virginia, Washington). Illnesses started on dates ranging from February 26, 2021 to June 21, 2021.
