Hanford Jack Cabernet Jack Cheese produced and packaged by Fagundes Old World Cheese of Kings County is the subject of a statewide recall announced by the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA).  The recall follows the confirmed detection of Listeria monocytogenes in the firm’s Hanford Jack cheese sampled and tested by CDFA. 

The order applies to “Fagundes Old World Cheese Hanford Jack Cabernet Jack Cheese” sold in varying weights of approximately half-pound to one-pound (0.50 to 1.00 lb.) wedges packaged in clear plastic wrapping marked on the back with the lot code 031226, a “Packed On” date of 05.06.26 and a “Sell By” date of 05.05.27.

Consumers are strongly urged to dispose of any product remaining in their refrigerators and retailers are to pull the product immediately from their shelves. 

CDFA detected the Listeria bacteria in a routine sample collected at the Fagundes Old World Cheese manufacturing and packaging facility and confirmed the finding on 6/3/28. No illnesses have been reported.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
