The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) is issuing an updated public health alert regarding additional illnesses of shiga toxin producing Escherichia coli (STEC) across the state associated with the multi-state outbreak.

The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) has been assisting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), local health departments, and other state and federal agencies in the ongoing investigation of this E. coli outbreak.

Since the last update on August 19, 2022, 47 more illnesses have been reported to CDC. As of August 24, 2022, a total of 84 people infected with the outbreak strain of E. coli O157:H7 have been reported from 4 states.
Illnesses started on dates ranging from July 26, 2022, to August 9, 2022.

With a lawsuit pending in Ohio courts, eventually, Wendy’s will tell us, “who made the lettuce.” Wendy’s and the FDA have identified the likely contaminated lettuce as a romaine and iceberg lettuce hybrid. We know that given the time of the year the lettuce was grown in California. We also know that there are only
