shot.bmpIn following the ongoing Hepatitis A scare in Fayetteville, North Carolina, we’ve learned today from reporter James Halpin of the Fayetteville Observer that “[c]ounty health officials have so far vaccinated roughly 2,000 people who may have been exposed to hepatitis A while dining at the Olive Garden.”

Hep A vaccine.jpgJennifer Calhoun and James Halpin, staff writers for the Fayetteville Observer, reported this morning that the Cumberland County Health Department has already vaccinated more than 500 people who may have been exposed to the Hepatitis A virus after eating at an Olive Garden in Fayetteville, North Carolina and is continuing to administer vaccinations today.

Local NBC affiliate WBIR in Knoxville, Tennessee is reporting tonight that the Knox County Health Department is investigating an unusually large spike in confirmed Hepatitis A illnesses in the area.

“In the past week we’ve received reports of 7 cases, which is really a significant increase,” Dr. Martha Buchanan, of Knox County’s Health Department said.

Public Health Seattle King County has announced a hepatitis A outbreak that has sickened at least 6 people, all adults, in the Snoqualmie Valley.  Although there is no official word about the source yet, a prime suspect in any cluster of hepatitis A illness is that it was caused by contaminated food.
