West Virginia has recently increased the amount of allowable mercury pollution in the states lakes, rivers, and waterways.  West Virginia’s new regulations are even less stringent than the minimal national standard.   As Seattle University School of Law Associate Professor Catherine O’Neill explains, this is a bad decision based on faulty logic. 

Polluted waterways are a problem

Nine family members, including three children, from a remote Territory community are being treated for food poisoning after eating a locally caught fish. The family group from Angurugu on Groote Eylandt were diagnosed with potentially fatal ciguatera poisoning from a gifted reef fish, known as a mother-in-law fish.

Four seriously ill adults were flown to
