Julie Fine reports that a Tarrant County couple is starting to recover after battling cyclospora for several weeks.  Danny Wexler of Mansfield says he and his wife got sick around the end of June after eating takeout from a restaurant.

“It is something I would not wish on my worst enemy,” Wexler said. “It is pretty bad.”

Wexler’s doctor diagnosed him with cyclospora.

“You start off with extreme headache,” Wexler said. “Your fever is off and on. One minute you feel like you got things under control, you feel like you can eat. You try and eat, and three or four minutes you are into the bathroom.”

Wexler had horrible nausea and diarrhea for three weeks. Wexler lost 12 pounds, while drinking eight bottles of water a day.

Around mid-July, Wexler started to feel better as his symptoms subsided. His appetite is slowly increasing.

Wexler said throughout the time of his sickness, he only missed one day of work – and he and his wife continued to care for their three kids.

“It was hard, but you have to do what you have to do,” Wexler said.
