A group of people involved with a local wrestling camp were taken to Providence Hospital in Southfield Wednesday with an unknown illness, Local 4 News reports.
Fourteen children ranging in age from 9 to 15 years old and one adult were taken to the hospital after experiencing symptoms of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (and) pretty bad stomach pains, according to Dr. Steven Rivera.
The participants in the camp were from Michigan and all over the country and were getting their food and lodging from the Ramada Inn in Southfield, Local 4 reported.
The Oakland County Health Department is investigating the hotel to determine if the patients may have suffered food poisoning, the station reported.
It was unknown if the illness was the result of food poisoning, but some parents weren’t taking any chances and took their children home after they were released from the hospital.
The health department was sending samples to Lansing to determine the cause of the sicknesses.
