On Tuesday the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a rare mandatory recall on all kratom products produced by Triangle Pharmanaturals LLC. The FDA commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb stated, “This action is based on the imminent health risk posed by the contamination of this product with Salmonella, and the refusal of this company to voluntarily act to protect its customers and issue a recall, despite our repeated requests and actions.” The FDA is recommending consumers throw away all kratom products they have purchased including Raw Form Organics Maeng Da Kratom, Emerald Green, Ivory White, and Ruby Red.
Illness onset ranges from October 13, 2017 to February 24, 2018. Ill people range from 6 to 67 years old, with a median age of 39. To date, a total of 87 people infected with outbreak strains of Salmonella I 4,,12:b:- (50), Salmonella Javiana (5), Salmonella Okatie (16), or Salmonella Thompson (16) have been reported in 35 states.
