Thirteen people, in total, have been sickened or killed by E. coli O157:H7 in Green County, Wisconsin since mid-July.  According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Green County Health Department has not been able to link the cluster of illnesses to any particular source.  On Thursday, the health department said only that E. coli bacteria have been spreading person-to-person through inadequate hand washing.

Most of the cases of illness have been in children younger than 6, including, most recently, 3 students in Kindergarten at Lincoln Elementary School in Monroe.  At least 2 of the cases required hospitalization, and of course 1 person died.
