Health department officials in Amarillo, Texas are reporting an outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 among seven area children. Reports indicate that a common food vehicle has not been found, but that the children had been in contact with each other.
Outbreaks among children, and in daycare settings, are particularly frightening as children are at increased risk for developing hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS).
