W USA 9 News reports that some hotel workers in the District for a convention are being evaluated for stomach ailments. The 53rd International Congress of Hotel Concierges has been under way this week at the Mayflower Hotel. But Thursday night, a few of the 450 attendees began complaining of nausea and vomiting.
Friday morning, DC Fire and EMS was called to evaluate more than a dozen people.
Fire department spokesman Alan Etter says 16 people have been treated by emergency medical technicians and three of them have been taken to hospitals. Two other hotel guests went to hospitals on their own.
Etter says while the DC Health Department has been contacted, the Mayflower remains open. The group represents hotel desk workers from all over the world and Etter says it’s possible some may be suffering from stomach flu.
