serrano.bmpThe Associated Press is reporting that  World Variety Produce, Inc., of Los Angeles has announced the recall of Serrano Peppers sold in Walmart stores in Wisconsin, Montana, Utah and Wyoming and Jewel-Osco stores in Illinois between the dates of March 1 through March 18.

The peppers are being recelled because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.  To date, there have been no reports of associated illnesses.  

Peppers have been identified as the source of Salmonella outbreaks in the past.  In 2009, investigators identified 1442 people who had become infected with Salmonella Saintpaul after eating contaminated jalapeno and Serrano peppers.  At least 286 people were hospitalized during the outbreak.
