Following confirmation from regulators of a positive test for Salmonella on curly parsley in Quebec and cilantro in Detroit, J&D Produce Inc. has initiated a voluntary recall of its curly parsley and cilantro items packed between November 30 and December 6, and processed and branded under the "Little Bear" product line by the Edinburg, Texas-based company.

The recall announcement was made after testing confirmed Salmonella on the company’s parsley and cilantro, both of which came from the same processing line in Texas.

The company’s products are sold retail as well as to wholesalers, who may then distribute them to restaurants and other establishments, according to Sharon McNerney, a public relations consultant for the company.

The recall involves nearly 2,500 cases of the parsley that were distributed to the Canadian provinces of Quebec and Ontario and the U.S. states of Connecticut, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin.

The nearly 4,500 recalled cases of cilantro, carrying the same packing and expiration dates, were distributed in Colorado, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin.  They were also distributed to Quebec and Ontario.
