In undertaking the study, researchers hoped to determine the prevalence as well as the antibiotic susceptibility profiles of Staphylococcus aureus in the U.S. food supply.

• 76 Cases Total (75 in Rhode Island, 1 in Massachusetts)

• 29 Hospitalizations (27 Discharged, 2 Current)

• 46 Lab-confirmed Salmonella

• 2 Salmonella-associated Deaths

Yesterday the Rhode Island Department of Health posted an update in its ongoing investigation of the Salmonella outbreak linked to DeFusco’s bakery in Johnston, Rhode Island. The new numbers released today:

• 70 Cases Total (69 in Rhode Island, 1 in Massachusetts)

• 29 Hospitalizations (25 Discharged, 4 Current)

• 42 Lab-confirmed Salmonella

Early last week, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) along with Amira Enterprises Inc. issued a recall of certain Amira brand walnuts because the products were contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.
