Jimmy John’s restaurants, implicated in a Salmonella outbreak linked to alfalfa sprouts (at least in Illinois), were asked to pull alfalfa sprouts off their menus as a precautionary measure.  In what seems like a good move, if a little late, by the man himself, the call came from Jimmy John Liautaud, in a letter to franchisees.  More importantly, Liautaud’s statement indicated

The Illinois Department of Health just updated the figures in the Salmonella outbreak linked to alfalfa sprouts on sandwiches from Jimmy John’s restaurants:

Many people who have become ill recently with Salmonella, reported eating alfalfa sprouts at Jimmy John’s restaurants in 10 Illinois counties – Adams, Champaign, Cook, DuPage, Kankakee, Macon, McHenry, McLean, Peoria

The CDC and Illinois Department of Public Health are working together to investigate the Jimmy Johns Salmonella I 4,5,12,i- outbreak that has sickened almost 50 people. Many cases in the outbreak reportedly consumed alfalfa sprouts at Jimmy John’s restaurants in nine Illinois counties, including Adams, Champaign, Cook, Kankakee, McHenry, McLean, Peoria, Will and Winnebago.
