On April 6, 2018, the New Jersey Department of Health announced an investigation into a cluster of six E. coli cases potentially linked to Panera Bread. Four days later the CDC announced a multistate outbreak of E. coli O157of unknown origin that includes the New Jersey cluster.

To date, there are 17 laboratory confirmed cases across seven states: Connecticut (2), Idaho (4), Missouri (1), New Jersey (6), Ohio (1), Pennsylvania (2), and Washington (1). The investigation is still ongoing.
